FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 7/27/2011
ANDERSON --- The Anderson Area Business and Education Alliance will host the second annual Business and Education Summit August 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the community room of Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, in Anderson.
Approximately 100 leaders from business, industry and education are expected for the event with the theme "Trademarks of Excellence: It Takes a Village to Raise an Employee." A primary focus of the event will be to identify the critical skill sets required in the working world and how to best teach, model and measure performance based on those skills.
The keynote speaker will be John Warner, founder and CEO of InnoVenture LLC, and a recognized leader in the Southeastern innovation and entrepreneurial community. Warner has won several awards for his work in creating high-impact business opportunities. He publishes the SwampFox.ws website and a related weekly e-mail and provides a weekly South Carolina public radio business update.
Also on the agenda will be a lunch presentation on virtual job-shadowing by Karen Owens of Microburst Learning. The company is using a highly interactive e-learning approach to make virtual job-shadowing opportunities available to all secondary school students in the state through the SC Personal Pathways to Success portal.
Attendees will participate in roundtable work groups during the summit to identify gaps in the school-to-work processes, define innovative ways to ensure that students graduate with the skill sets needed in today's job market and discover ways for the often divergent business and education communities to better engage each other in their collective mission of workforce development and deployment.
"The overarching goal of the event and the Alliance is to promote economic and community development through a well-prepared workforce," said Alliance Chairman Jhan Nixon.
The Anderson Area Business and Education Alliance is a 501 (C) (3) organization that exists to align business, industry and education to ensure a world-class workforce in the greater Anderson area. A new web site, AlignSC.org, will be launched by the date of the Summit.
