STUDENT LIFE
Get Connected
Every year in January and September, close to the start of each semester, the Anderson Campus hosts a Get Connected event. We offer free snacks, drinks, giveaways and information about our student services and organizations. It's a great time to meet the people you need to know, learn about our services, find student organizations to join, network and have fun with other students.
Fall Bash
Each October, our campus celebrates fall with festive decorations, refreshments and student activities, including our traditional Pumpkin Decorating Contest. The pumpkins are decorated by our students, put on display in our lobby, and judged by three of our faculty members. Winners receive gift certificates from local merchants.
SPECIAL EMPHASES
Black History Month
Our college annually observes Black History Month with a variety of activities, lectures, workshops and performances.
Constitution Day
The Anderson Campus annually commemorates the date of the original signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, when the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention held their final meeting. We honor the freedoms represented by the Constitution and the meaning and application of its basic principles. We celebrate by offering our students refreshments and free copies of a Constitution booklet.
9/11 Remembrance
This past year, the Anderson Campus took part in a week-long observance of September 11 Remembrance, in collaboration with Anderson County, to remember and memorialize the lives lost and the sacrifices made on September 11, 2001.
GENERAL COMMUNITY AWARENESS
Anderson County Public Safety Day
Sponsored by Anderson County and hosted by the Anderson Campus, this Saturday event is open to all area residents to learn how emergency responders protect them, both daily and during emergencies. Click here for an article about last year's Public Safety Day.
Community Action and Benevolence
During November and December, seasons of emphasized giving, our campus hosts three separate events sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), to help those in need:
- For our Food Drive, we ask students to bring non perishable foods items that are typically donated to Anderson Interfaith Ministries (AIM). AIM is a local agency providing assistance to the needy while encouraging and guiding them to function independently within their own resources.
- Our Clothing Drive assists students in donating general clothing items which are then delivered to community agencies for distribution.
- An Angel Tree is placed in our lobby starting in early November for people to take an angel ornament off the tree. The ornaments have a child's first name, age, clothing sizes and a wish for a toy. Items for this child are brought to our campus early in December and are delivered to children in the HEADSTART program in Anderson County.
The mobile AnMed Blood Donation Center comes to campus for our fall and spring semester Blood Drives. The public is invited to schedule blood donation appointments alongside our students, faculty and staff.
