Course Description
Get a head start in establishing yourself as a personal trainer with our ACE approved college curriculum program! Modern fitness consumers demand comprehensive programs that are truly individualized based on their physical-activity levels, current health status, and needs and desires.
We have teamed up with the American Council on Exercise to bring you the American Council on Exercise (ACE) approved college curriculum program ! The ACE national certification is accepted by the major fitness centers around the country. This 50 hour Certificate program is designed to the assist you in your preparation to sit for the ACE exam or one of the other national examinations for Personal Trainer.
Through a formal educational approach yet using an interactive and hands-on format, we will cover the basic health science studies used by the fitness industry as well as specific professional skills needed to be a personal trainer. Included are internship hours at local cooperating fitness facilities in the area.
You can choose to work for a facility, work as an independent contractor, or start your own business. Our program gives you a head start in establishing yourself as a personal trainer.
Course Outline
Two 25 hour modules
- Module I Essentials of Exercise Science: Human Anatomy Review; Exercise Physiology; Fundamentals of Applied Kinesiology; Nutrition; Physiology of Training
- Module II Standards of Excellence in the Fitness Industry: Role and Scope of Practice for the Personal Trainer; Leadership, Communication, Teaching Techniques; Building Rapport; Functional Assessments; Resistance Training; Cardiorespiratory Training; Specialty Populations; Professional and Legal Responsibilities; Business Strategies
Entry Requirements/What to Expect
This class is designed to assist you in acquiring the knowledge and skill sets needed for this popular fitness industry position. A mock ACE written exam will be given at the conclusion of your study to assist you preparing for the actual exam. This is an in-depth class requiring you to do serious study outside of class to gain sufficient competency in this growing career. You must complete BOTH modules to obtain the Personal Trainer Certificate from Tri-County Technical College.
