You will find a variety of Horticulture and Landscape Design courses offered through the Corporate and Community Education Division at Tri-County Technical College.

GENERAL HORTICULTURE CERTIFICATE
This QuickJobs program is a WIA-eligible training program.   
This program is designed to teach skills needed by persons entering employment or starting a business in the horticulture and landscaping industry, or any homeowner who wants to increase the value of his or her most expensive investment. Once you have completed this group of courses, you can continue your study in one or all of the following emphasis areas: Landscape Design & Maintenance, Nursery Management and Turfgrass Management. Resource book fee of $40 covers all units.

Certificate Requirements

  • Soils, Nutrition & Plant Physiology
  • Plant Pathology, Entomology, Weeds and Pest Control
  • Plant Propagation
  • Plant Materials - Annuals and Perennials
  • Introduction to Turfgrass
  • Principles of Landscape Design

Entry Requirements/What to Expect
Text book required; it will be used for all courses in  this certificate.
There are no prerequisite courses required.

ARBORIST CERTIFICATION EXAM PREPARATION
Designed to prepare students to take the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist exam this course will cover basic aspects of arboriculture including soils, tree biology, and pruning. Certified arborists may take this course to earn continuing education units (CEUs) required for recertification. Fee includes books & materials.

PESTICIDE APPLICATOR EXAMINATION PREP
In South Carolina mandatory licensing is in effect for applicators in Category 3. This class has been designed to help you successfully take and pass the required testing. You will be provided with information and test-taking tips that will prepare for this licensing process. Testing provided the following week of class. Fee includes instruction, study materials and exam fee.

TURFGRASS MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE
This certificate can be taken upon the completion of the General Horticulture Certification or permission of instructor. The certificate has been designed to provide you the opportunity to pursue a career in turfgrass management. Classes prepare individuals to take the Planet (Professional Landcare Network) exam to become a nationally certified turfgrass professional.

Certificate Requirements:

  • Grading, Drainage & Irrigation
  • Turfgrass Management
  • Turf Pest & Disease Management
  • Turfgrass & Landscape Equipment Maintenance
  • Small Business & Human Resources Management

Entry Requirements/What to Expect

LANDSCAPE DESIGN & MAINTENANCE CERTIFICATE
This certificate can be taken upon the completion of the General Horticulture Certification or permission of instructor. The classes listed below will prepare you to become a Certified Landscape Technician through the SC Nurseryman and Landscape Association. Hands-on projects may be included in classes and may require additional time.

  • Plant Materials II Trees & Shrubs
  • Landscape Installation
  • Turfgrass & Landscape Equipment Maintenance
  • Landscape Maintenance

HORTICULTURE FOR HOMEOWNERS
This series of courses has been developed to provide our local commuinty with classes that will help as they work to create a scenic landscape, grow beatiful flowers and harvest wonderful fruits and vegetables. The topics are selected based on the season as well as areas of interest that we have heard from area citizens interested in this type of coursework.
