Program Description:
Technician Certification:
At this point, there are eight different types of technician certification courses offered at Tri-County Technical College. For complete information about requirements of the SCDOT Technician Certification program, please see the SCDOT Technician Certification website. For more information on the individual courses offered at Tri-County Technical College, please click the links in the table below.
Pre-Certification Technician Training:
Tri-County Technical College now offers a training course (approved by the SCDOT Technician Certification Board) that prepares individuals for Asphalt Roadway Technician Certification AND Earthwork and Base Course Technician Certification. This 8-week training course provides accelerated credit towards the 6-month experience requirement for both of these certifications. In addition, participants now have the chance to attempt certification in BOTH Asphalt Roadway and Earthwork and Base Course as part of this training course. Entry Requirements/What to Expect

Registration:
Students may view available sections and register online by clicking on the course links in the tables above. To register by phone, please call (864)646-1700.
Registration Fees:
The registration fee must be received at least two weeks before the start of each class. Participants are automatically dropped from the course if the registration fee has not been received by the cutoff date.
Refund Policy:
The registration fee is refundable if cancelation for a registrant is received at least 2 weeks before start of class. Participants may be substituted; however, you must notify us prior to the start date of the course.
Required Supplies:
Calculator and pencils
Dress Code:
Lecture sessions: Informal/comfortable
Laboratory or field testing sessions: Long pants and closed-toe shoes required (no sandals).
Retesting:
If a participant does not pass the written exam, but he/she makes a grade of at least 60/100, he/she will be allowed to take a retest. The dates/times of the retest will be provided to each participant eligible to take a retest. The retest must be taken within 30 days of receiving notification of the retest dates/times.
Retaking a Class:
If a participant either makes a grade of less than 60/100 on the original test or fails the retest, that participant must retake the entire class.
Application for SCDOT Technician Certification Class:
At the start of each course, all course participants will be asked to read and sign the following form called "Application for SCDOT Technician Certification" If you answer "yes" to Question #2 on this form, your certification will be subject to approval by the SCDOT Technician Certification Board even if you pass the written exam.
