Program Description
Medical Office/Billing & Electronic Health Records: Designed to help you prepare for employment in a medical office or environment. Perform secretarial duties utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence. Perform secretarial duties utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures.   Students that complete this program of study are eligible to challenge the National HealthCareer Association (NHA) National Certification Examination. (Exam fee is additional.)

The program is held in our Acceleration Learning Center (ALC) for Office Professional, located at Pendleton Campus.  The ALC offers a unique learning experience. Instead of taking your classes in a traditional classroom setting with one instructor teaching one course at a time, you will take your classes in a lab setting where you will work on one class at a time independently with other students. You will schedule your lab work to complete your course. An instructor-mentor is assigned to each lab and is available to assist you, as needed. In addition, online access allows you to also work from home or work, accelerating the pace of your course/program
To earn this certificate, students will take the following classes:

  • Beginning Electronic Health Records
  • Intermediate Electronic Health
  • Beginning Medical Office Procedures
  • Intermediate Medical Office Procedures
  • Patient Billing

Entry Requirements/What to Expect
Prerequisites:
Depending on the skill level of the student - Working knowledge of computers, Keyboarding (Beginning and Intermediate), and Windows (Beginning and Intermediate).

Students that complete this program of study are eligible to challenge the National HealthCareer Association (NHA) National Certification Examination. (Exam fee is an additional $150.)

PATIENT ACCESS SPECIALIST  Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA):  The Patient Access Specialist Certificate program is a 5-course bundle that provides you with the skills necessary to work in the Patient Access Services field. You'll learn the basics of health insurance and health care reform, the importance of excellent customer service skills, medical billing and essential medical terminology. This course package fully prepares you to sit for the national Certified Healthcare Access Associate certification exam.
