Meet LEI Faculty and Staff

Galen DehayGeneral: I'm Galen DeHay and I teach COL 105 (Freshman Seminar). I also teach biology and anatomy and physiology. It wasn't that long ago that I was in your shoes as a college student. I was raised in the Lowcountry of South Carolina in a small town named Moncks Corner. I now live in Central and chose to stay in the area after college because I love the upstate region of South Carolina. I like to mountain bike, hike, travel, cook, and go to Clemson football games.

Music: I love all kinds of music. Favorite types include classical, reggae, jazz, blues, and alternative rock. I've been to the largest jazz festival in the world held in Montreal every summer. I've heard blues in Kansas City and New Orleans, alternative rock in Seattle, and electronica in New York. Some CDs I'm listening to right now are ColdPlay's X Y and Morcheeba's Big Calm.

Movies: Any action movie gets my attention, although I like some quirky movies as well. Some favorites include Waiting for Guffman and Pulp Fiction.

Television: I don't watch much TV, but I do love to view the reality TV shows with high-speed chases and old Seinfeld episodes.

Education: BS Biological Sciences, Clemson University; MS Zoology, Clemson University

Occupation: Beginning in the fall, I'll be Science Department Head. I am currently Coordinator of Instructional Activities for the Science Department and a biology instructor. I am also the Learning Excellence Initiative Director. I've taught at Tri-County for 8 years and love what I do, especially getting to interact with students.

Favorite Quote: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
-Mahatma Ghandi

Message to LEI students: I believe that the LEI will be the single best experience in your educational career! COL 105 is going to be a great course, preparing you for your college career by helping you make the jump from high school to college. My goal is to see you (and everyone in my COL 105 class) succeed in reaching your dream of earning an associate's degree, transferring to a 4-year college, or whatever you desire to accomplish. The learning community courses you are taking with COL 105 are designed by faculty who care about your learning and success. The LEI will help you reach your goals by giving you the tools to be successful. All you need to do is be willing to learn and ready to devote the amount of time needed for your own learning. I want you to be a person who seeks to keep learning every day, even after you graduate from college. Let's get started!
