Meet LEI Faculty and Staff
General: My name is Jennifer Beattie, and I am one of the LEI instructors. I will be teaching ENG 101 and COL 105. Believe it or not, I am a human being just like you! I live in Anderson with my dog, Penny, and my cleverly named cat, Graye Khat. In my free time, I love reading, writing, scrapbooking, conducting family tree research, and spending time with my pets and my family and friends. I'm a Chicago Cubs baseball fanatic, and I attend every Clemson home football game in the fall.
Music: In my CD player right now: Breaking Benjamin, Deathcab for Cutie, Flyleaf, "The Mustang Mix" (a homemade compilation of early 90s rock), Linkin Park, and Korn.
Movies: Life is Beautiful, Casablanca, Bull Durham, Gone with the Wind, The Boondock Saints
Television: LOST, Studio 60, Grey's Anatomy, ER
Books: All-time fave: Lee Smith's Fair and Tender Ladies.
Heroes: Oprah Winfrey, a successful woman from humble means who's become one of the most successful, influential people of our time.
Education: B.A., English, Winthrop University; M.A., English, Winthrop University
Note: I went back to school to get my M.A. specifically because I wanted to teach at a two-year community college like TCTC. I'm not here because I have to be; I am here because I want to be.
Occupation: Your English/COL 105 Instructor. I've been at TCTC since August 2004. I feel very fortunate to be at such a great student-centered school.
Favorite Quote: "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so." -Mark Twain
Message to LEI students: I am very excited about being a part of the LEI team, and I hope you are too! I look forward to working with you throughout your first semester here at TCTC to get you on the right path to achieving your goals. The picture of me included with this profile is from my college graduation. I can remember the sense of accomplishment and pride I felt on that day. 4 years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance had finally paid off. I was a college graduate, ready to take on the world, degree in hand. My goal is to prepare you to take a similar journey, a journey that will ultimately end with your successful completion of whatever program of study you choose to pursue-be it a 2-year degree or a 4-year degree. Part of the reason I got involved in the LEI is because I believe that what we're doing in the LEI will help you acquire the tools you will need to make it to your own college graduation, and that's my goal-to help you feel as proud as I feel in that picture. Are you ready? I am!
