Meet LEI Faculty and Staff
General: My name is Sheryl Donovan and I am a Sociologist and a Teacher.
As a Sociologist I view the world differently from people who have not
studied this discipline. The sociological perspective forces you to
look beyond common sense notions of human behavior.
As a Teacher I am committed to help anyone interested gain a
sociological perspective.
My personal philosophy of education is based upon the need to move the
student from the lowest level of abstraction - Knowledge - to the highest
level of abstraction - Evaluation. I approach teaching from that
perspective. I think the goal of education, no matter the discipline,
is to teach critical thinking. The accumulation of facts may be
valuable for the game show contestant, but critical thinking is the
ultimate goal of an educated individual. In addition, making content
alive and relevant may re-instill a love of learning often squelched
during elementary and secondary education.
Message to LEI students: My fervent hope is that participating in a Learning Community will help you make connections between course content in Sociology 101 and English 101, and that you will continue to use the skill sets learned in College 105 throughout your college career.
