WebCT 3.8 -- Netscape Versions & Settings

Validated: These browsers have been tested extensively and have been validated for use with WebCT.
Non-Validated: These browsers have not been tested extensively but are known to work without any significant issues.
Unsupported: These browser are known to have significant issues in operation with WebCT and are not supported for use with WebCT.

Validated Versions:

• Netscape 4.76 and 6.2.x (Netscape 6.2.x may require an updated Java plug-in. See WebCT's browser tune-up for more information)

Non-validated Versions:

• Netscape 4.8 and 7.0

Unsupported Versions:

• 6.0 and 6.1

Required Settings:

1. Enable Java

• Select Edit then choose Preferences
• Select Advanced from the left-hand pane
• Make sure the Enable Java and Enable JavaScript boxes are checked
• Click OK

2. Enable Cookies

Netscape 4.x

• Select Edit then choose Preferences
• Select the Advanced from the left-hand pane
• In the Cookies section of the right-hand pane select Accept All Cookies or Enable all Cookies
• Click OK

Netscape 6.x

• Select Edit then choose Preferences
• Click on the arrow next to Privacy & Security in the left-hand pane and then select Cookies
• Select Enable cookies for the originating website only
• Click OK

3. Disable Pop-Up Killers

These applications work in the background while you browse the internet. When they detect a pop-up window that may be an unwanted advertisement, they automatically close the window. Unfortunately, they also inhibit WebCT from performing properly. If you are unable to view Discussion postings, Quiz windows, and download links, then search your hard drive for any software with "pop-up" in the name and disable it.

Note: Norton Internet Security 2003 has an automatic ad-blocking setting that must be disabled for WebCT to perform properly. Please disable this function within Norton.
