Project Nexus Phase 2 is now complete, marking a major transformation of the campus center spine from Oconee Hall to Anderson Hall.

The project included the addition of several new stairways connecting the upper walk along Anderson and Pickens Halls to a new middle pathway that gently winds through the center of campus, creating connections between the upper Pickens Hall path and the lower Cleveland Hall walk.

Students returning for the fall semester on August 17 were able to move freely through the center of campus and enjoy the newly completed space. The project is further enhanced by a new amphitheater and extensive landscaping.

Overall, Project Nexus Phase 2 has been a great success. Thank you to Harper Construction, DP3 Architects, their partners, who helped bring this important campus improvement to life. Stay tuned for Nexus Phase 3.

Project Nexus updates as of July 9, 2026

Project Nexus is nearing completion.

The new sidewalk is now open, providing a smooth and continuous pedestrian route from Ruby Hicks, through the heart of campus, all the way to Oconee Hall.

Final finishes across the project area are still underway. Stairways will open once the site railings have been installed and all safety requirements have been completed.

Thank you for your patience and support as we complete the final phase of this important campus improvement project.

Project Nexus updates as of June 4, 2026

Despite the many inches of rain received over the past several weeks, a large portion of the spine walkway has been poured. Seat walls and curbing have been formed and poured throughout much of the project area and work will continue through June. A second, larger stairway is scheduled to be poured during the week of June 8.

Gentle slope of Nexus Pathway

Gentle slope of Nexus Pathway

The weather has been cooperative so far, allowing grading to progress well. The central path is now clearly visible, taking shape with a gentle slope. The outdoor amphitheater/classroom has had its first footing pour completed, and forms are in place to continue developing the seating area. If the weather continues to cooperate, the new Central Spine is anticipated to be completed by July.
