Loan Programs
- Federal Student Stafford Loans
A Federal Stafford Loan is a loan for students to help pay for a college education. The loan is governed by Federal Financial Aid eligibility rules. Therefore, if a student is suspended from financial aid due to Standards of Academic Progress then they are also ineligible to receive Stafford (to include PLUS and Alternative) loans. Stafford loans must be repaid.
- Federal Parent Plus Loans
Federal PLUS Loans allow parents of dependent undergraduate students to borrow up to the annual cost of education minus any financial aid.
PLUS Loans are not based on financial need, but do require a good credit history.
A parent loan cannot exceed the students Cost of Education. Students of parent borrowers, who apply and are denied Plus Loans could be authorized for additional Stafford Loans funds, please contact your financial office for additional information.
- Alternative Programs
Alternative financial aid programs, both federal and private, may
be available to assist you in meeting educational costs. Anyone wishing
information about these programs should contact the Office of Financial
Aid.
Additional Considerations regarding Loans
A student must be degree seeking; enrolled at least half-time (minimum of 6 credit hours), meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements for financial aid, a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or permanent resident of the United States, cannot be in default on a federal education loan, or owe a repayment of federal title IV aid.
Debt Management Policy
Tri-County Technical College has a Loan Debt (Default) Management Program and may under certain circumstances refuse to certify a loan.
Exit Interview
Students who have dropped below 6 credit hours or are about to graduate from Tri County Technical College must complete an exit interview. A hold will be placed on your records until such time the student completes the exit interview requirement. Please note that this includes a release of transcripts, ineligibility to enroll in courses, and a hold on your financial aid request.
