Federal Parent Plus Loans
Eligibility Requirements to Receive a Parent PLUS Loan
Has the student already completed the FAFSA-If not, it must be completed now. (www.fafsa.ed.gov). The FAFSA is the key that unlocks the door to various types of
financial aid assistance-to include eligibility of the Federal Loan
Program.
- You must complete the Loan Application Form and submit it to the financial aid office.
- You must be the natural or adoptive parent of the student for whom the Federal PLUS Loan is being borrowed. A stepparent is also eligible to borrow.
- You must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident of the United States.
- Your student must be an eligible, dependent undergraduate and enrolled at least half-time (six-hours minimum).
- You need to meet specified credit requirements.
- Your student must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid.
