| What Should I Know About Financial Aid Policies? 1. Apply early! Several financial aid and scholarship programs have deadlines, so dont wait. Contact the Financial Aid Office for info on deadlines. 2. Start by applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), since that will help determine which state or federal programs you may be eligible for - including the new Lottery Tuition Assistance Program. You can apply online (www.fafsa.ed.gov) or by paper application. Pick up an application in the Financial Aid Office or the Information Center. 3. Your financial need is determined by subtracting the expected family contribution from the total cost of attending Tri-County. The financial aid award you receive shall never exceed the college cost budget. 4. Any financial assistance you are awarded is to be used solely for legitimate educational purposes. If you are receiving financial aid for the current/upcoming academic year (or expect to receive financial aid), read carefully Important Information for Current Year Recipients. 5. In order to receive your financial aid, you must be registered for courses at Tri-County; all financial aid programs have requirements for the number of credit hours you must carry each term. Read EVERYTHING you receive from the Financial Aid Office for information on the number of credit hours you must register for (and maintain) each term in order to retain your award. 6. If you receive financial aid, you must renew your eligibility each year. 7. If you withdraw from your classes during the term, you must notify the Financial Aid Office and you must be aware of the Earned Aid Policy. If you drop courses, you must also be aware of important information that could affect your financial aid status. 8. The Financial Aid Office reserves the right to review and cancel an award at any time because of changes in your financial or academic status, or if you fail to perform college work-study duties satisfactorily. 9. If you are receiving financial assistance through any of the Title IV, Federal Student Aid Programs, you MUST be making Satisfactory Academic Progress toward a degree, diploma, or certificate. |
