Federal
- Pell Grant
This is the grant most often awarded, and it is considered the basic foundation for Federal Student Aid awards. Ideally, this would be the first kind of financial aid for which you should apply. To qualify, you must be determined eligible by the U.S. Education Department.
- Federal Supplemental
Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
This grant program is awarded to Federal Pell Grant eligible students who demonstrate EXCEPTIONAL financial need. To be considered for this program, all application processes must be completed on or before June 30.
- Federal Work-Study
Program
This program provides part-time employment opportunities for eligible students who demonstrate financial need. Most employment is on campus and, when at all possible, assignments are made to jobs within a student's area of study. To be considered, you must complete a campus work-study application and submit it along with a valid Student Aid Report (SAR) to the Office of Financial Aid.
State Aid
- South Carolina Need-Based
Grant
The South Carolina Need-Based Grant Program is designed to provide additional financial aid assistance to South Carolina's neediest students. These grant funds are awarded to students who are determined to be eligible under Title IV Federal Financial Aid guidelines and meet all other state-established criteria. To be considered, applicants must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a supplemental application, both of which are available in the Financial Aid Office.
- Legislative
Incentives for Future Excellence Scholarship (LIFE)
Life is a state-funded program approved by the General Assembly
in June of 1998. LIFE scholarships cover the amount of full-time tuition
and provide an annual $300 book allowance to eligible students who attend
Tri-County Technical College. The College's Admissions Office evaluates
all students for eligibility. H3096
Amends the Law Regarding LIFE GPA Requirements. (Recipients of LIFE
scholarships will not be eligible to receive a Lottery Tuition Assistance.)
- Lottery
Tuition Assistance Program
The Lottery
Tuition Assistance Program, approved by the South Carolina General Assembly
in May of 2002, provides partial tuition scholarships to qualified students.
Local or Private
- Scholarship Information and Application
Scholarships are funds that can be awarded to students who demonstrate
academic achievement and/or need. Most scholarships are competitively
awarded, and some have special qualification criteria, such as the student's
career field, place of residency, etc. Through the efforts of the Tri-County
Technical College Foundation and the generosity of numerous donors,
many general and departmental scholarships are available through the
College. Most scholarships are awarded before fall semester, and scholarship
applications are due in April of each year.
Loan Programs
- Federal Student Stafford Loans
A Federal Stafford Loan is a loan for students to help pay for a college education. The loan is governed by Federal Financial Aid eligibility rules. Therefore, if a student is suspended from financial aid due to Standards of Academic Progress then they are also ineligible to receive Stafford (to include PLUS and Alternative) loans. Stafford loans must be repaid.
- Federal Parent Plus Loans
Federal PLUS Loans allow parents of dependent undergraduate students to borrow up to the annual cost of education minus any financial aid.
PLUS Loans are not based on financial need, but do require a good credit history.
A parent loan cannot exceed the students Cost of Education. Students of parent borrowers, who apply and are denied Plus Loans could be authorized for additional Stafford Loans funds, please contact your financial office for additional information.
- Alternative Programs
Alternative financial aid programs, both federal and private, may
be available to assist you in meeting educational costs. Anyone wishing
information about these programs should contact the Office of Financial
Aid.
