- Many of the fastest growing occupations dont require a 4-year degree, but do require training beyond high school. For example, 13 of the 25 fastest growing occupations in South Carolina require training after high school up to an associate degree. Nationally, the number is 11 of the top 25. According to the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs requiring an associate degree are projected to grow 32% between 2000-2010, faster than any other category.

Nationwide, the trends are similar, with 9 of the 25 fastest growing occupations in the U.S. in healthcare and 9 in computers.
- Some of the fastest growing occupations include computer support specialist, medical records and health information technician, registered nurses, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist assistant, veterinary technician, dental assistant/hygienist, medical assistant, respiratory therapist, surgical technologist, machine tool operator, welder, and childcare worker.
- Job growth in Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties will occur in a number of fields, including healthcare, technology, managerial, and education.
