PENDLETON --- A booth designed by Tri-County Technical College's Interior Design students to spotlight the Anderson Homebuilders Association won the prestigious Best of Show award at the annual Business Expo held August 26 and 27 in Anderson.

The room display featured a versatile multi-purpose room offering a relaxing atmosphere where someone could enjoy a hobby, such as painting. The room featured natural materials; for example, the floor was made of natural wood decking, the backdrop was burlap, and the fountain was clay terra cotta.

Eight students from the beginning and advanced interior design classes worked several weeks to gather ideas and later furniture and accessories which came from Pier I Imports and individual students' homes.

"This was one of the most creative booths the students have ever done because it was a mixture of materials and ideas," said Wanda Morgan, instructor for the College's Interior Design certificate program. "They put the project together in a well-designed setting, and that's not easy to do."

Former students have repeatedly won top honors for best booth at the Southern Home and Garden Show in Greenville and the Anderson Homebuilders Show.

Tri-County's interior design program is for both personal interest and career advancement. There are 18 courses, including an internship. Students in the program hold a membership in the Anderson Homebuilders Association. Graduates earn the title of residential and commercial interior design specialists.
