Two Community Leaders Join Tri-County's Foundation BoardCONTACT: LINDA ELLIOTT, EXT. 2145 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 6/18/99 PENDLETON --- Two manufacturing leaders have been elected to serve on Tri-County Technical College's Foundation Board. Joining the Board's current members will be Kim Alexander, plant manager of Owens Corning in Anderson, and Carl H. Sharperson, Jr., vice president for manufacturing at MaxFli in Westminster. Members of the Foundation Board raise money to supplement appropriations thereby helping the College to meet the educational needs of the citizens of the tri-county area. Mr. Alexander's career with Owens Corning began in 1984 when he was hired as a scheduler at the Aiken plant. After receiving numerous awards for outstanding customer service, he was promoted to warehouse and shipping operations manager at the Newark, Ohio, plant. Five years later he was promoted to plant manager of the Columbus, Ohio, plant fabrication plant where he led efforts in productivity and safety. His plant earned ISO 9000 registration in a record seven months. In 1996 he was promoted to regional manager of Owens Corning Soltech where he was responsible for four plants in the central region, and later became northern regional general manager and was responsible for the seven plants in the northern half of the OEM Division. While he was in this position, overall gross margin profits increased 110 percent. Mr. Alexander holds a B.S. degree in business from The Citadel. He and his wife, Trina, have an 11-year-old son. Mr. Sharperson came to Maxfli in January of this year after working six years as manager of strategic planning and analysis at Colgate Palmolive in Topeka, Kansas. Prior to that he held a number of senior operations positions with Frito-Lay and Proctor and Gamble. After graduating from high school, he received a Congressional appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis where he graduated in 1976 with a B.S. in engineering. He held several leadership positions in the Brigade of Midshipmen. He also served in the Marine Corps as a commissioned officer and was designated a naval aviator. He is a certified leadership instructor at the Center for Creative Leadership, and he is a member of the Kansas State Historical Society. He and his wife, Jacqueline, live in Clemson, and they have two children. |
