BellSouth Executive to Address Audience at
Tri-County's Annual Report Luncheon

PENDLETON --- Joe M. Anderson, Jr., president of South Carolina's operations for BellSouth, will deliver the keynote address at Tri-County Technical College's Annual Report to the People Luncheon Thursday, November 4.

The luncheon annually attracts approximately 400 community, business, industrial, government and political leaders from Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties.

Mr. Anderson was elected as the corporate officer in charge of South Carolina operations in 1986. BellSouth has approximately 1.38 million telephone access lines, almost 3,500 employees and 2.9 billion dollars invested in S.C.

He began his telephone career in 1967 as a manager in Columbia and moved to Miami in 1970 where he was promoted to district manager in Fort Lauderdale in 1973. In 1979 he was promoted to general manager -- customer services for the South and southeast Florida.

Currently Mr. Anderson serves on the board of directors for state, community and civic organizations. He is a past chairman of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of its Excellence in Education Council where he serves as Foundation Chairman. He is a member of the board of the United States Chamber of Commerce.

He recently was appointed by Governor Hodges as chair of the advisory council of the "First Steps" program, a new educational initiative in the state

He serves as president and director of the University of South Carolina (USC) Educational Foundation, vice president of the University Associates of the University of South Carolina, and president of the Independent Colleges and Universities. He is a member of U.S.C.'s National Advisory Council and the Council of College Presidents' Business Advisory Council. He is past chairman and currently a director of the Central Carolina Economic Development ALLIANCE and is a member of the Palmetto Business Forum. He is vice president the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities Foundation and is a member of the Palmetto Society of the United Way of the Midlands.

He is an Anderson native and received his B.B.A. degree from the University of Georgia and his M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina. He is married to the former Carol Gerrard of Anderson, and they have three sons.
