Alliance, to Speak at Tri-County's Annual Textile Banquet

PENDLETON - Robert H. Chapman, III, president and treasurer of Inman Mills in Spartanburg, will be the keynote speaker at Tri-County Technical College's Annual Textile Management Technology Scholarship Awards Banquet set for Monday, October 11.
Mr. Chapman, who also is the president of the S.C. Manufacturers Alliance, will address the audience of textile executives and students during the banquet scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Student Center.
Approximately 24 Textile Management Technology freshmen will receive scholarships covering books and fees from sponsoring textile firms. These scholarships are valued at approximately $2,500 each.
Mr. Chapman joined Inman Mills in 1976 as a management trainee and was promoted to plant manager three years later. In 1984 he was elected director of Inman Mills and for the next two years also served as the company's assistant vice president. He was named vice president in 1986, a title he held until 1990 when he assumed his present position.
He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from University of the South, in Sewanee, Tennessee, and has studied at the Institute of Textile Technology. He completed the program for management development at Harvard Business School in 1986 and the Cotton Leadership Program from the National Cotton Council.
Currently, he serves on the following boards of directors: Bank of America; State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education, Spartanburg County Foundation; Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Foundation (chairman); American Textile Manufacturers Institute, Liberty Mutual and Spartan Communications, Inc.
He and his wife, Lacy Dennis Chapman, have two daughters. They are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, where he is an active deacon.
Mr. Chapman is the son of Harrison S. Chapman and late Robert H. Chapman, Jr.
