Two Summer Programs Scheduled for YouthCONTACT: WAYNE LINK, EXT. 2227 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 6/9/99 PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College will offer two summer programs specifically geared toward youth 8 - 16 years of age. They are as follows: "Basic Riding Skills for Youth" will be held June 21 - 25, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The cost is $175. This fun, yet educational, equine riding program will teach youth ages 8 - 16 the basics of balanced seat riding. During the session of hands-on handling, grooming, saddling, and riding, the students will practice safety, learn aspects of horse behavior, and conformation and breed characteristics. They also will participate in the everyday chores of a horse facility. Each student should wear hard-soled riding shoes and bring a sack lunch. Horses and equipment, including helmets, will be furnished. This class will be held at The Heritage in Pendleton. A second session is scheduled for August 2 - 6, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. "Exploring Our World Camp for Youth" will be held August 9 - 12. There is a session for ages 9 - 11 and another for ages 12 - 15. Both will be held August 9 - 12, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Give your children the experience of a lifetime and the opportunity to learn about the world's environment in a fun, creative way. Through activities of exploring the creeks, woodlands, and old home sites, they will learn aspects of forest and water ecology, archaeology and geology and will gain an appreciation of nature. Each group is limited to 14 participants. Included in tuition are lodging (dormitory-style), meals, environmental education programs and activities and transportation from Tri-County Tech to the facility. This program is co-sponsored with the Tugaloo Environmental Education Center in Oconee County.
