FOR RELEASE ON NOVEMBER 4
PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College's Textile Management Technology Advisory Board was named Advisory Committee of the Year at the College's Annual Report Luncheon.
This is the seventh time the committee has received the trophy, the first time being in 1978. Chairman Paul Wolff and Don Shirley, department head, accepted the trophy and plaque on behalf of the committee.
During the past several years, with the help and support of committee members, the department has been able to secure almost a quarter of a million dollars worth of equipment from the Sirrine Textile Foundation. The department's processing equipment has been updated to support students' needs, and the physical testing laboratory equipment has been improved. This past year the Sirrine Textile Foundation gave the department $42,250 to modify the Uster Evenness Tester essential in testing sliver and yarn quality and to provide six two-year scholarships valued at $1,500 each. In addition, the Foundation provided $5,000 to purchase fabric design software.
A member of the Advisory Committee and president of an Anderson County company, also provided a two-year textile scholarship.
Members continued to work to improve the articulation agreement with Clemson University's School of Textiles and many served as guest speakers to textile classes. They also assisted in recruiting by recommending employees as potential scholarship candidates.
