PENDLETON --- Reports indicate passing scores for nine of the 10 recent Tri-County Technical College graduates who elected to take the Veterinary Technology National Examination.
This test is used by 34 states and provinces for credentialing veterinary technicians and is prepared by the Professional Examination Service under the direction of the Veterinary Technician Testing Committee of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Many states, including South Carolina, use the national exam as their written examination for certification, said Dr. Roseann Marshall, who leads Tri-County's Veterinary Technology department. The raw scores are kept on file in New York and a person may request his or her scores anytime.
The national exam is a timed test consisting of 200 multiple choice questions that test the students' knowledge about pharmacology, surgical preparation and assisting, lab procedures, animal nursing, radiology and ultrasound, anesthesia and office and hospital procedures.
The Veterinary Technology program at Tri-County is the only two-year associate degree program in the state that trains veterinary technicians.
This fall classes will be taught via distance learning at Midlands Technical College in Columbia. Lectures will originate on the Tri-County campus and advanced video technology will allow students at Midlands to participate in the classes.
