Tri-County Students Win Five State Awards at Annual Welding CompetitionCONTACT: BOB HUMPHREY, EXT. 2206 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4/30/99 PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College's Welding students won five awards, including two first-place honors, in the State Technical College's Annual Welding Competition held April 23 at Spartanburg Technical College. Scott Brabham of Pendleton won first place in the plate category using the stick welding process, and Mark Hester of Seneca, won first place in the pipe welding tig and stick welding process category. In addition, Jeremiah Moore of Iva and David Sams of Powdersville won second-place honors, and Matthew Woodall of Liberty won a third-place honor. A total of 35 first- and second-year welding students from seven of the state's 16 technical colleges participated in the competition. Contestants competed in welding skills projects and were judged by inspectors and supervisors from Fluor Daniel who sponsored the event. Tri-County students won two welding machines, two grinders and a welding hood and accessories. "Our department won in every category," said Bob Humphrey, who leads Tri-County Tech's Welding department. "As usual, my students went above and beyond what was expected of them. They were prepared for the event and are ready for the workforce." |
