Writer's Weekend Set for September 10 - 12CONTACT: WAYNE LINK, EXT. 2227 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/6/99 PENDLETON --- Michael Garrett, an internationally published writer and editor, will lead four seminars during the Writer's Weekend series sponsored by Tri-County Technical College. "Creating a Novel from Scratch" will be held September 10 from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. The cost is $99. The course will show participants how to produce a marketable novel. Students will brainstorm to develop a novel outline from scratch, create a cast of characters, and decide which point of view and structural form are the most appropriate. "Writing a Novel that Sells" will be held September 11 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The cost is $99. You'll learn what to do (and what not to do) to develop and sell your novel manuscript, in addition to inside tips about the publishing industry to speed the time it takes to see your work in print. "Short Story and Novel Feedback" will be held September 11 from 6 9 p.m. The cost is $49. Most short story and novel submissions are rejected within the first few pages; editors rarely read every word submitted. This is an opportunity to gain valuable feedback from a professional editor. Participants are asked to bring two copies of the first five pages of your manuscript to class. "Screenwriting for the Movies" will be held September 12 from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. The cost is $99. Have you ever thought about writing a movie? Screenwriting requires a different approach than fiction writing. This workshop will help you to break into an exciting career as a screenwriter. You will learn proper screenplay manuscript format; recommended screenplay development software packages; where and how to contact a Hollywood agent; and financial expectations. All workshops will be held on the Tri-County Tech campus. Mr. Garrett is a Writer's Digest School instructor and for 12 years has served as co-editor of the best selling Pocket Books Hot Blood Anthology series. He has written dozens of short stories and articles and is the author of Keeper, a movie-optioned suspense thriller. Mr. Garrett is recognized as the first publisher of author Stephen King.
