Tri-County's MLT Grads Report 92% Passing Score on
National Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathology

PENDLETON --- Tri-County's recent Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) graduates report a 92 percent passing score on the National Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

The MLT (ASCP) is the most prestigious credential a medical laboratory technician can place after his or her name.

"These students are sharp," said Department Head Dallas Jones, who wasn't surprised by the students' performance on the computerized exam. All but one (who is pursuing her bachelor's degree) are employed at the hospital where they did their clinical training, she added.

"The employers were that impressed with the students, and luckily they had openings for all of them," said Jones.

During the exam, students are tested on five areas: chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, and body fluids. There are 100 multiple choice questions to cover these five major areas of science.

The Medical Laboratory Technology department is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education Accreditation in cooperation with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
