Three Faculty/Staff Members Honored as
Tri-County's Educators of the Year

PENDLETON ---Three faculty/staff members have been honored as Tri-County
Technical College’s Educators of the Year.
Dr.
Lynn Lewis, of Easley, chair of the Health Education Division, is the
College’s outstanding administrator; Frank Breazeale, of Pendleton,
Science department head, is the outstanding instructor; and Faye Allen,
of Williamston, director of Fiscal Affairs, is the outstanding staff
nominee.
Since 2002, Dr. Lewis has led Tri-County's Health Education Division
which is comprised of the following departments: Associate Degree
Nursing, Expanded Duty Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Medical
Laboratory Technology, Practical Nursing, Respiratory Care, Surgical
Technology and Veterinary Technology.
She holds a B.S.N. degree from Clemson University, a master’s in Health
Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina and a doctorate
in Vocational and Technical Education from Clemson.
She was appointed to the State Board of Nursing in 2003 for a four-year
term to represent the Third Congressional District on the nine-member
board.
Prior to joining Tri-County, she was with the Parke-Davis and UCB
Pharmaceutical Companies for a decade. Her most recent position was
senior clinical research scientist. Other positions held include senior
medical and scientific affairs liaison and women’s healthcare territory
manager. In addition she has served on the nursing faculty at Clemson
University as director of Continuing Education and on the staff of
Baptist Medical Center, Easley (now Palmetto Health Baptist Easley)
as its in-service educator and director of Staff Development and Public
Relations. She began her career in 1978 as a staff nurse at that hospital.
She was named to Phi Kappa Phi (Nursing) and Kappa Delta Pi (Education)
honor societies at Clemson University. She was a charter member of
Clemson's chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society
for Nursing.
Dr. Lewis is a lifelong member of Easley Presbyterian Church. She
has two adult children and lives in Easley.
Mr. Breazeale came to Tri-County in 1972 as a biology instructor and
was named Science department head in 1989. He received the highest
award presented to faculty, the Presidential Medallion for Instructional
Excellence, in 1993.
He
is a graduate of Clemson University where he earned a bachelor's degree
in biology and a master's degree in microbiology. He earned his clinical
microbiology certification from Greenville General Hospital and the
American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He organized and chaired
the College's guest speaker/performing arts committees for years and
currently serves on the selection committee for the Arts and Sciences
Division Chair.
He is a member of the First Baptist Church in Pendleton, where he has been
pianist/organist for the past nine years. He and his wife, Linda, have two
adult children.
Mrs. Allen joined Tri-County’s Business Office
17 years ago, and since 1991, she also has worked as an adjunct instructor
for the College’s evening Accounting classes.
She
was among the 13 financial officers who successfully completed a 75-hour
certification program through the Government and Finance Officers Association
of South Carolina in 2001. She is a Certified Government Finance Officer
(CGFO) and is one of four CGFOs in the state’s technical college system,
and among the 100-plus CGFOs in the State.
Comprehensive financial reporting has earned Tri-County's Division
of Financial and Administrative Services the highest form of recognition
in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. The Government Finance
Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded
a Certificate
of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Tri-County for
its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the past four
years. To
be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government unit must publish
an easily readable and efficiently organized CAFR whose contents
conform to
program standards.
Mrs. Allen received the Presidential Medallion for Staff Excellence,
the highest award given for staff excellence at the College, in 2001
at the annual faculty/staff breakfast.
She is former state treasurer for the SCTEA and is member of the S.C.
Association of Government Purchasing Officers.
She has served on various College committees and is currently the
project leader for the implementation of Banner, a fully integrated
suite of administrative systems that will be used by students, faculty
and staff.
Mrs. Allen holds an associate degree in Business from Tri-County (1985)
and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting (1987) and a master’s in industrial
education (1991), both from Clemson University.
She and her husband, Harold, live in Williamston.
