Dr. Lynn Lewis Appointed to State Board of Nursing

PENDLETON --- Dr. Lynn Lewis, of Easley, chair of the Health Education Division at Tri-County Technical College, has been appointed to the State Board of Nursing for a four-year term.

Governor Mark Sanford appointed Dr. Lewis in December to represent the Third Congressional District on the nine-member board.

The Board meets bi-monthly and its mission is the protection of public health, safety and welfare by assuring safe and competent practices of nursing.

"I'm looking forward to working on behalf of the district and will devote my energies to nursing practice issues in South Carolina," said Dr. Lewis.

Since 2002, Dr. Lewis has led Tri-County's Health Education Division which is comprised of the following departments: associate degree Nursing, Early Childhood Development, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology and Veterinary Technology.

She holds a B.S.N. degree from Clemson University, a master's in Health Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina and a doctorate in Vocational and Technical Education from Clemson.

Prior to joining Tri-County, she was with the Parke-Davis and UCB Pharmaceutical Companies for a decade. Her most recent position was senior clinical research scientist. Other positions held include senior medical and scientific affairs liaison and women's healthcare territory manager. In addition she has been on the nursing faculty at Clemson University as director of Continuing Education and on the staff of Baptist Medical Center, Easley (now Palmetto Health Baptist Easley) as its in-service educator and director of Staff Development and Public Relations. She began her career in 1979 as a staff nurse at that hospital.

She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi at Clemson University and was charter president of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. Other memberships include the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Carolinas Society for Training and Development and Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.

Her most recent publication, "Lipid Treatment Assessment in Women: Primary Care Practice Implications for Obstetricians and Gynecologists," appeared as an abstract in the May 2002 issue of the Journal of Women's Health and Gender-Based Medicine. She gave a poster presentation on the subject at the Discover the Treasures of Research conference in Greenville last year.

Dr. Lewis is a lifelong member of Easley Presbyterian Church. She has two adult children and lives in Easley.
