FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2/20/2003

PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College's Enrichment Series continues March 13 with a presentation by Dr. James Chatters, a leading American archaeologist.

The presentation will be held from 11:15 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in Oconee Auditorium. Dr. Chatters will present a slide program and talk about Kennewick Man and the earliest settlement of the Americas.

Kennewick Man's skeletal remains were discovered near the Columbia River in Washington in 1996. The bones were claimed by five Native American groups, yet their morphology didn't match any known American tribe. A long court battle ensued giving archaeologists the right to study this important find that could help to rewrite the pre-history of North America.

The presentation is sponsored by Tri-County's Arts and Sciences Enrichment Committee and is free and open to the public.
