Tri-County Offers Equine Training Psychology Classes

PENDLETON --- Jim Leggett, professional trainer and equine management instructor, will begin teaching the first of three equine training psychology classes March 14 at Tri-County Technical College.

"Introduction to Equine Training Psychology" will be held March 14, 6 – 9 p.m. The cost is $35. This one-day seminar is designed to provide you with some insight into the mind and reveal the thoughts of a professional horse trainer. This session will also acquaint the participants with the variety of course offerings available to them through the equine program at Tri-County.

"Training Psychology I -- Level I" will be held March 21 – April 25 on Tuesdays from 6 – 9 p.m. and on April 29. The cost is $65. This course will deal with the technical and psychological aspects of equine training. The instructor uses a gentle, humane approach to training and stresses the importance of safety, communication and control.

"Equine Training Psychology – Level II" will be held May 2 – June 13 on Tuesdays from 6 – 9 p.m. and on June 17. The cost is $65. Participants can develop their training skills through this course, which builds on the principles established in Level I. Coursework will consist of classroom instruction and professional demonstrations. Students will be given the opportunity to bring their own horse to the Saturday lab session for professional evaluation.

"Evaluating a Horse for Purchase" will be held April 8 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The cost is $35. This course will provide you with specific ways to test a horse, and to evaluate the safety of a horse and the thoroughness of the training the horse has received.
