Faye Allen Completes Government Finance Officers Certificate Program

CONTACT: FAYE ALLEN, EXT. 2101

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 6/30/2000

PENDLETON --- Faye Allen, director of fiscal affairs at Tri-County Technical College, is among the 13 financial officers who successfully completed a 75-hour certification program through the Government and Finance Officers Association of South Carolina.

Mrs. Allen, of Williamston, successfully completed all requirements of the program by passing all three exams and will be designated a Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) in September at the association's annual meeting. She will be one of four CGFOs in the state's technical college system, and currently there are 106 CGFOs in the state.

The Government Finance Officers Certificate Program is a three-part program which is administered and offered for the Government Finance Officers Association of South Carolina by the Center of Governance of the University of South Carolina's Institute of Public Affairs. The program focuses on the specific issues, principles and standards applicable to the managerial and financial reporting activities of South Carolina government, municipal and county government and educational institutions.

"Participating in the certification program has been a goal of mine, and I was able to realize that goal with the help of Wayne Fogle, the College's vice president for finance," said Mrs. Allen. She also received a mini-grant from the College Foundation to help defray some of the costs.

"The program has given me a comprehensive understanding of governmental accounting, financial planning and budgeting, and financial management and auditing. Meeting other government finance officers from a variety of local and state agencies provided me with a valuable network for the exchange of ideas and experiences," said Mrs. Allen.

To maintain certification, a CGFO must earn yearly continuing professional education credits.

Mrs. Allen, who has been employed in Tri-County Technical College's Business Office for 12 years, holds an associate degree in Business from Tri-County (1985), and a bachelor's degree in Accounting (1987) and a master's in industrial education (1991), both from Clemson University.
