PENDLETON --- Comprehensive financial reporting has earned Tri-County Technical College's Division of Financial and Administrative Services the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Tri-County for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000. "The Certificate of Achievement is a prestigious, national award-recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government financial reports," said Faye Allen, the College's director of fiscal affairs. This was the first year the College prepared and submitted the CAFR to GFOA.
"The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment," said Mrs. Allen.
To be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized Comprehensive Annual Financial Report whose contents conform to program standards, said Mrs. Allen. Such CAFR must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.
A Certificate of Achievement is valid for a period of one year only. "We believe our current report continues to conform to the Certificate of Achievement program requirements, and we are submitting it to GFOA," said Mrs. Allen.
