Seminar Will Focus on the Art of Japanese Flower Arranging

PENDLETON --- Betty Fuller Taylor, an expert in Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arranging, will conduct a seminar at Tri-County Technical College June 9.

Persons can choose from two seminars on that day – a lecture and demonstration from 10 a.m. – noon, or lecture /demonstration and workshop from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. During the first session, she will trace the developing styles in the 500-year history of this art form. The longer session will be a hands-on workshop to include a demonstration of two styles of Ikebana, the semi-classical and the informal. Participants can select one of the two styles to practice during the remainder of the workshop. Ms. Taylor will give each student a personal critique at the end of the day. Flowers for the workshop will be furnished.

Ms. Taylor, a McLean Virginia resident, has studied and practiced the art of Japanese flower arranging for 35 years. She is a certified master graduate of the Ohara School of of Ikebana. She has conducted workshops for groups at the Smithsonian Institute, the U.S Botanic Garden Conservatory, the U.S. National Arboretum and the Centennial Moribana Exhibition at the Ohara School in Japan.
