PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College is offering a one-day
seminar, which will address the importance of protecting personal and
financial documents stored on your computer.
Defensive Computing will be held Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. - 2
p.m. on the Pendleton campus. The prerequisite for the class is the
Introduction to Computers course or equivalent knowledge. Each class
is six hours and costs $89.
In honor of Financial Security Month, the College will be offering
a $10 discount for students who mention this special occasion when
enrolling in the course.
“Since so many important financial documents are stored on personal
computers or accessed over the Internet, it is extremely important
for computer users to learn how to protect their computers and information,”
said Brian Swords, coordinator of Computer Training at the College. "In
today's world, we are relying more and more on our computers (via e-mail)
to send sensitive documents, such as financial information, that potentially
could be harmful if it got into the wrong hands," he said.
According to Swords, students will learn software and hardware maintenance
and preventive care for PCs. Class topics include various types of
back-ups and back-up media, anti-virus programs, firewalls, UPS back-ups,
spam, spyware, security and more. In addition, students will learn
how to prepare for the most common problems (boot failures, freezes,
program crashes, running slow, Internet connection failures) and will
receive a checklist of things to do when dealing with these problems.
Additional day, evening and Saturday classes are offered at the Anderson
Mall and on the main campus. For more information, call 224-0453 or
