Lorraine Frith Receives Tri-County's Staff Excellence Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/18/2000
(By Lisa Garrett)

PENDLETON --- Registrar Lorraine Frith, who this year celebrates 30 years at Tri-County Technical College, was honored Thursday with the highest award given for staff excellence at the College.

Ms. Frith, of Anderson, received the Presidential Medallion for Staff Excellence at the annual faculty/staff breakfast August 17. The medallion goes to a person who has demonstrated over and over a strong belief in the purpose and mission of the College.

Ms. Frith joined the College as a faculty/staff clerk and over the years has held various clerical positions at the College, including secretary to the Education and Industrial Divisions, PBX operator, assistant to the business manager, secretary in the Comprehensive Manpower Division and secretary to the executive vice president and dean of instruction. In 1987 she assumed the position of registrar.

"Lorraine has a tremendous record of providing quality service," said President Don C. Garrison. "She is always willing to experiment with new and better ways to do things. She constantly evaluates procedures and events to see if they can be improved.

"She was an integral player in the SIS Plus migrations and implementation. She has served on countless standing and ad hoc committees and makes events like graduation come across flawlessly year in and year out," he added.

James Williams, the College's dean of students, said, "Lorraine is a silent, stable, dependable and dedicated force that is always at work behind the scenes. She is one that does not look for fanfare, but rather is always focused on getting the job done. Lorraine's exemplary service to the College over the past 25-plus years has proven that she is one of the many bricks that make up the cornerstone of the College's foundation."

Ms. Frith is a strong supporter of the philosophy of the College and demonstrates this daily in her interaction with students, staff and faculty. "She has a way of asking questions that make all of us think about what we are doing, why we are doing it and how we are doing it," said Dr. Garrison. "She has the knack for doing this in a way that promotes harmony among fellow employees and builds allegiance and loyalty in the process. She is proud of Tri-County and what it means to the community. She flies the Tri-County banner with pride both on and off campus."

Ms. Frith lives in Anderson and has two adult sons, Jason and Scot.
