PENDLETON --- Nationally recognized freelance floral designer Pam Rowland will be featured in the coming weeks on "Making it Grow," a weekly hour-long television show which airs on all S.C. ETV stations twice monthly.

Rowland, whose credentials include being inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), was asked by show host Rowland Alston to demonstrate using garden flowers to make hand tie bouquets. The site of the interview was The Fran Hanson Discovery Center on the Clemson University campus.

The show focuses on gardening as Alston and other experts answer questions from viewers about house plants, shrubs, trees and lawns.

Rowland, of Pendleton, who owned Floral Designs in Liberty for 18 years, teaches Floral Design at Tri-County Technical College, in addition to her work as a consultant for Southern Living at Home, a direct sales company.

A graduate of the College's first Floral Design class in 1977, Rowland is preparing to teach two new classes this summer for the College's Floral Design Department. Beginning in June, she will teach Theory of Color in Floral Design, June 8 - 23, Tuesdays and Wednesday, 9 a.m. - noon or 6 - 9 p.m. The Art of Arranging Silk Flowers is scheduled for June 29 - July 7, Tuesdays and Wednesday, 9 a.m. - noon or from 6 - 9 p.m. The classes may be taken for personal interest or for occupational advancement.

In addition to teaching for Tri-County, Rowland has worked as a consultant/coordinator in visual floral display with Craven, Inc. designing and decorating showrooms in Commerce and Atlanta.

In 1991 she was inducted into the AIFD, which she says was the highlight of her career.

In 1993 she was the S.C. Telefloral Design America winner, and in 1996 she was the FTD America Cup winner. Along with her training at Tri-County, she has completed the Phil Rulloda advanced floral design program and participated in a floral course taught by world-renowned trendsetter and German designer Gregor Lersch in 1998.

She has been a featured designer/commentator at state florist conventions, regional AIFD symposiums and the 2000 AIFD national symposium.
