Five Community Leaders Join Tri-County's Foundation BoardCONTACT: LINDA ELLIOTT, EXT. 1807 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/29/2002 PENDLETON --- Five community leaders have been elected to serve on Tri-County Technical College's Foundation Board. Joining the Board's current members will be Jan S. Fredman, of Clemson; Earle Morris, of Lexington; Suzanne E. Morse, of Pendleton; Marie Murphy, of Easley; and Edward A. (Ted) Spitz, of Anderson. Members of the Foundation Board raise money to supplement State appropriations thereby helping the College to meet the educational needs of the citizens of the tri-county area. Mr. Fredman began working with Edward Jones in 1985 and opened an office in Plaquemine, LA. In 1987 he moved to Clemson and opened an office on College Avenue where he is currently located. His office has consistently been ranked in the top 10 or 1 percent out of 9,000 Edward Jones' offices. He is active in the Clemson community and serves on the Board for CapitalBank and is a member of the Rotary Club. He is a native of Ulricehamn, Sweden, and came to the U.S. on a tennis scholarship in 1978 to attend Nicholls State University in LA. He graduated from Nicholls in 1983 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting. He and his wife, Anita, have two sons. Mr. Morris is one of the founders of the S.C. System of Technical Colleges and the state's retired Comptroller General. A native of Pickens County, he currently serves as chairman of the board of directors for Carolina Investors, Inc. in Pickens. He has held numerous offices in State government and the Democratic Party since his initial election to the S.C. House of Representatives in 1951. He served in the House of Representatives from 1951 - 54 and the S.C. Senate from 1955 - 70. He was a member of the state legislature who, in 1961 voted to create the Technical College System. He played an active role in establishing Tri-County and the State Tech System, and he became the sixth initiate into Tri-County Technical College's Order of the Trilon in 1982. In 1985, he was honored with the Donald L. Scantlebury Memorial Award from the federal government. The award is given to a state or local government financial official and specifically recognizes exceptional and distinguished leadership in governmental financial management. Mr. Morris' military service includes serving as president of the State Guard Association of the United States, a major general and past commander in the South Carolina State Guard, past president of the S.C. National Guard Association, and State Director of the Selective Service System. He was a member of S.C. Army National Guard from 1951 - 87 and is a retired brigadier general. He and his wife, Carol Telford, reside in Lexington. Mrs. Morse is a Virginia native but has been active in the Pendleton community for 27 years. She received her B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina and has since taken numerous courses in finance and accounting through Clemson University. She serves on the board of trustees for the W. C. English Foundation in Virginia and for CapitalBank in Clemson. She is a member of the Foundation Board for the S.C. Governor's School of Science and Mathematics. She serves on Pendleton's Town Beautification and the Town Twinning Committees. She is an active member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband, John, is professor of entomology at Clemson University. They have one daughter. Mrs. Murphy is the plant manager for Cryovac Division of Sealed Air Corporation in Seneca. She received her B. S. in Accounting from Furman University in 1986 and her M.S. in Human Resource Development from Clemson in 1992. She serves on the board of directors for the United Way of Oconee County and the Hamilton Career Center's School Improvement Council. She is a member of the American Business Women's Association, the Oconee Pickens Personnel Association and Tri-County's Job Placement and Cooperative Education Advisory Committee. She and her husband, Larry, have two children. A Cali, Colombia, native, Mr. Spitz is an attorney for Jones, Spitz, Moorhead, Baird and Albergotti, P.A. His general practice includes an emphasis in taxation estate planning, probate/trust pension planning and corporate law. He was admitted to the S.C. Bar in 1980. He is a member of the Christian Legal Society and the Anderson County Bar Association. He is a certified specialist in taxation law for the state. He has been a certified public accountant in S.C. since 1982. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from Clemson University and is a graduate of the University of S.C. Law School. He and his wife, Michelle, have two children. |
