PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College received $86,220 from the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education to support professional development for faculty using technology, the new Job Placement/Cooperative Education office and the Homemakers and Single Parents (HASP) organization.
These funds were granted under the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Technology Education Act of 1998.
The grant will support faculty training in the use and integration of technology-based applications into the curricula. In addition, funds will be used to assist in the development of courses to be delivered via distance education, such as web-based instruction for an Industrial Electronics Technology course.
Another provision of the money will be to develop courses for Respiratory Care, a new program at the College this fall. The Respiratory Care curriculum is helping to increase the number of graduates in the allied health field.
In addition, funding goes to the newly created Job Placement/Cooperative Education office, which identifies employment and co-op opportunities for students, and child care and transportation for 20 - 30 HASP participants.
This is the second year that Tri-County has received Perkins III (general provision) monies.
