PENDLETON --- Phyllis Eisen, vice president of the Manufacturing Institute and executive director of the Center for Workforce Success, will deliver the keynote address at Tri-County Technical College's Annual Report to the People Luncheon on Thursday, November 8.
The luncheon annually attracts approximately 400 community, business, industrial, government and political leaders from Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties.
The Center for Workforce Success, which is the research education and training arm of the National Association of Manufacturing (NAM), finds workforce solutions for U.S. manufacturers.
Currently, the Center's work is focused on innovative techniques that enhance the skills of American workers. Initiatives include school-to-career programs, recruitment, retraining, and retention of workers. Another initiative is the establishment of national skill standards. In collaboration with the U. S. Department of Commerce, the Center is sponsoring a campaign to prepare young people and adults for technology-driven futures by encouraging youth to take math and science classes seriously.
Before establishing the Center, Eisen lobbied for NAM on a variety of business concerns in her role as senior policy director.
Prior to joining the national Center, she worked for the American Motor Vehicle Association and Mack Trucks. Earlier she served as vice president of the National Immigration Forum in Washington, D.C., and was involved in political campaigns and party organizations for local and national candidates.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Education at the University of Maryland and subsequently pursued graduate-level study in public policy, political science and education at both George Washington University and the University of Maryland.
Eisen currently serves on the board of directors for the National Center for Education and the Economy, Advisory Council of the American Education Council and ThinkTanksWorldwide.com.
A lifelong resident of Washington, D.C., she is actively involved in a number of community organizations, including helping at-risk youth in the District of Columbia.
