(By Lisa Garrett)

PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College's executive vice president was named Administrator of the Year among the state's 16 technical colleges at the South Carolina Technical Education Association (SCTEA) conference March 31.

Robbye J. Mauldin, of Clemson, was honored for her outstanding leadership, management and administrative skills at a conference luncheon in Myrtle Beach.

"I have worked with many outstanding, hard-working, knowledgeable, and dedicated Tech leaders over the past 33 years," said Tri-County President Don C Garrison, "and I place Robbye Mauldin at the top of all of those I've been honored to work with. She is constantly working to make this College better and is focused on the challenges at hand, as well as constantly preparing for challenges of the future."

"Robbye Mauldin is an academic administrator whose name will always be
inextricably associated with great happenings at Tri-County Technical College," said Linda Elliott, vice president for development at the College. "She has led the College in putting into place systems for planning, committee organizations, student assessment, advising and other major initiatives. She has worked with the Foundation to establish a Faculty/Staff/Student Recognition fund. She is a tower of strength who keeps the College running. In her quiet, unassuming way, she keeps the president, other vice presidents, the deans, division and department heads, and yes, students on target. She is a model for young people having a goal to be an administrator and for the South Carolina Technical Education System," said Mrs. Elliott.

A veteran educator and administrator, Mrs. Mauldin joined Tri-County in 1972 as an instructor in the secretarial science (now Office Systems Technology) department and became head of the department the following year. She was named chair of the Comprehensive Studies Division in 1980 and added chairmanship of the Business and Human Services Division to her responsibilities in 1983. She was named executive vice president in 1986.

Her accomplishments over the years include the expansion of access and equity efforts to increase minority students, faculty and staff representation; the expansion of the College's academic and administrative computer services; the development and implementation of an office skills computer learning center at the Anderson Mall; and planning and implementing a strategic planning process.

"She has a range of influence beyond formal assigned authority, which

provides energy, stimulates creativity and innovation, and promotes collective responsibility, trust and confidence," said James Williams, the College's dean of students and the 1995 SCTEA Administrator of the Year. "She is a dynamic leader and administrator."

Throughout the years, Mrs. Mauldin has served as a mentor and role model for many faculty and staff, including Diana Walter, the College's Dean of Enrollment Development and Community Relations. "Robbye Mauldin has had a significant impact on my career and the way I view my contributions as an educator," said Mrs. Walter. "Among her many abilities and attributes that have influenced me, the most notable is her complete devotion to the College, her commitment to making each person feel valued, and her exceptional ability to make the right decision at the right time."

Mrs. Mauldin is the 1975 recipient of the Presidential Medallion for Staff Excellence. She received her bachelor's degree in Business Education from the University of Georgia and her master's degree in Guidance from Clemson University.

She is a member of the Clemson United Methodist Church. She and her husband, Tom, live in Clemson.
