Tri-County Students Take First-Place Honors in State Speech CompetitionCONTACT: GREG TONEY, EXT. 2369 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4/14/2000 PENDLETON --- Two Tri-County Technical College students took first-place honors in the 2000 South Carolina Speech Communication Association College Festival held on the Greenville Technical College campus April 8. Anna Seyller, of Mountain Rest, captured the first place award in the Oral Interpretation of Poetry category. She also placed sixth in the Oral Interpretation of Prose event. She is an Office Systems Technology major. In addition, Melissa Stark, of Anderson, placed fourth in Oral Interpretation of Poetry, and Joy Jenkins, of Seneca, a Criminal Justice Technology major, placed second in the Storytelling category. She is president of Tri-County's Student Government Association. Twenty-eight students from Tri-County and other two- and four-year colleges competed in the following categories: extemporaneous speaking, oral interpretation of poetry, oral interpretation of prose, solo acting, duet acting, impromptu speaking, after dinner speaking, storytelling and persuasive speaking. "Each student worked very hard preparing for the event," said Greg Toney, speech instructor/advisor at Tri-County. "Tri-County was well represented in numbers, and the students were very successful in the events they participated in." |
