PENDLETON ---A Tri-County Technical College student walked away with
a first-place trophy at the 2005 South Carolina Speech Communication
Association College Festival.
TShane
Miller, of Easley, a University Transfer major and former Student Government
Association president, captured the top award in the Impromptu Speaking
category. Tri-County Technical College hosted this year's event.
Twenty-five students from Tri-County, Florence-Darlington Technical
College, Furman University, USC-Aiken, Newberry College and Trident
Technical College competed. The categories included: Extemporaneous
Speaking, Storytelling, Persuasive Speaking, Impromptu Speaking,
After-Dinner Speaking, Prose Interpretation, Duet Acting, Solo Acting
and Poetry Interpretation.
"Shane has a good knowledge of current events and political
happenings so he was well suited for the events he participated in
(Impromptu Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking)," said Greg Toney,
Speech instructor at Tri-County. "He has the ability to put his
thoughts into words quickly so he excels in both of these categories."
"Everyone did a great job," said Miller, who is a Political
Science major at Clemson University. I'm happy to be able to compete
against schools with very strong speakers."
