PENDLETON --- Stan Compton, of Piedmont, has been named head of the Textile Management Technology program at Tri-County Technical College.
Compton, who has more than 20 years of experience in the textile industry, has been directing the online offerings of the Textile Management Technology department.
Textile associates working toward a textile management degree at Tri-County today don't always have to choose the traditional classroom setting. Instead, they can opt for online classes, which are steadily gaining in popularity among those whose work schedules and time constraints won't permit them to attend classes on the Pendleton campus. A $67,644 grant from the J. E. Sirrine Textile Foundation funded 10 Textile Management Technology scholarships last fall and supports the continuing development of the College's web-based textile courses.
Compton began his career at Mayfair Mills in 1981 as management trainee. He remained at Mayfair until 1998 when he began working at Springs Industries as its department head of weaving. He accepted a job as department head of weaving at Mt. Vernon Mills in 2000 and joined Tri-County at the end of March. He holds a B. S. in Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan University and an associate degree in Textile Management Technology from Spartanburg Technical College. He also holds an A.A. from Spartanburg Methodist College. While at Spartanburg Tech, he was named to Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges.
He is a former member of the Association of Textile Industrial Engineers and the Greer Jaycees. He and his wife, Susan, have a daughter. They are members of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
