PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College's Welding students won five awards, including a first-place honor, in the State Technical Colleges' Annual Welding Competition held at Trident Technical College.

Scott Brabham, of Pendleton, won first place in the GTAW and SMAW on carbon pipe category.

In addition, John Odum of Anderson, John Edmund of Six Mile, Fernando Arenas of Seneca, and Adam Porter of Pickens all won second-place honors.

First- and second-year welding students from seven of the state's 16 technical colleges participated in the competition. Contestants competed in welding skills projects and were judged by inspectors and supervisors from across the state.

"As usual, my students went above and beyond what was expected of them," said Bob Humphrey, who leads the College's Welding department. "They were prepared for the event and are ready for the workforce."
