Tri-County's Welding Department to Hold Open House April 10CONTACT: BOB HUMPHREY, EXT. 2206 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 3/22/2001 PENDLETON -- Learn more about welding training and certification offered by Tri-County Technical College through associate degree and/or continuing education classes at an Open House scheduled for April 10. Business and industry representatives, high school and career center students and others interested in a welding career are invited to the Open House set for 10 a.m. 3 p.m. in 303 Clarke Hall on the Tri-County campus. Guests are invited to tour the facilities and to talk with Bob Humphrey, Welding department head, about the varied job opportunities and to view presentations by Lincoln Demo Zone and Miller Welding equipment. "Today, there are more jobs than ever in the field of welding, and these jobs specifically require a welder with certification," said Humphrey. "I get calls three times a week from employers looking for trained welders. The best jobs, of course, require a two-year degree." Tri-County's Welding program prepares persons for a variety of employment opportunities, primarily in construction or metalworking. Training includes acetylene, arc, MIG and TIG welding, in addition to resistance welding, inert gas dual-shielded welding, plasma and carbon arc cutting. Day and evening classes are available, and persons may enter any term. Some students may elect to enter the certificate program. "Most grads are employed in the fabrication shops and pipe welders, Humphrey added. "I can place 100 percent of my graduates in May." The Continuing Education Division offers courses for beginners and experienced welders to who want to upgrade their certification. Courses are held on campus and instructors work with students' flexible schedules.
