PENDLETON -- Next month Tri-County Technical College will offer a four-day certificate program focusing on interpersonal skills, the economics of business, how quality impacts productivity and the importance of following safe work procedures.

"Workplace Skills," a 24-hour course dedicated to increasing a person's employability, will be held April 15 – 18 on campus in the IBDC. The cost is $290. A job fair with several local industries will follow on April 19.

This course was designed by representatives from local companies in Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties and addresses specific skills and knowledge that local business and industry say they are looking for when hiring associates for jobs in manufacturing.

This course is for the unemployed, the underemployed, and/or for those currently employed who want to enhance their opportunities for higher paying positions in manufacturing or service industries," said John Benson, director of Tri-County's World Class Training Center. "The program is designed to bridge the gap between the employees have and the basic skills and attitudes employers are seeking for the entry-level positions in manufacturing."

Thanks to a contribution by Blair Mills, the cost of the course has been substantially reduced for all participants, said Benson.

The World Class Training Center advisory committee, which is composed of local plant managers, human resource managers and training managers from a variety of industries, recommended the specific training topics. "The course content addresses the kinds of skills managers look for when hiring for jobs in manufacturing. These are the skills that would give folks a better chance in the job selection process," said Benson.
