Artificial Intelligence Strategy

As we experience the growth and exponential impact of artificial intelligence (AI), TCTC will leverage this immense change for two overarching purposes: (1) Advancing teaching and learning, and (2) Improving business operations that enhance experiences for our students and our employees.

We recognize that AI is a powerful tool, but, like all tools, it requires knowledge, skill, and expertise to use proficiently.  Furthermore, we recognize that all employees must be actively engaged, invested, and diligent in developing and implementing the use of AI as we continue in this journey.

Guiding Principles

We will utilize AI to advance the College’s mission.  The following guiding principles will direct our actions:

  • Use AI to advance our workplace skills: Communicate Effectively, Think Critically, Connect Intentionally.
  • Develop comfort with and command of AI tools through robust training and programming.
  • Hold the highest ethical standards and ensure human oversight in all AI use cases.
  • Embrace opportunities to enhance business operations, including but not limited to community partnerships, business processes, student support services, academic instruction, and student learning.
  • Ensure that AI enhances, not replaces, essential human roles.
  • Equip students with the core knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to engage with AI in their career fields.
  • Position academic integrity at the center of AI policy and practice, remaining cognizant of the potential for intentional or inadvertent misuse, misapplication, and bias, and embrace teachable moments when such unintentional misconduct occurs.

While AI technologies offer promise and potential for future growth, they must be approached with care and, often, with cautionary restraint.  We will not…

  • Allow AI to supersede critical inquiry, thoughtful communication, or engaged learning.
  • Leverage AI simply as a cost-cutting initiative, but, instead, where possible, utilize AI to improve processes and outcomes in constructive ways.
  • Utilize AI to off-load responsibilities for student support and instruction, but, instead, to enhance wrap-around care and to augment instructional best practices.
  • Put confidentiality of any member of the College community at risk, but, instead, implement standards to protect personal information and data in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.
