Work-Based Learning: BEST Program

BorgWarner is a world leader in highly engineered products and technologies in powertrain components and systems. The BorgWarner Seneca plant hires co-op students to work 4 - 20 hours per week while maintaining a full-time student status.

These co-op students gain machine shop training in operating horizontal machining centers, lathes, hobs, broaches, and shapers plus operating computer controlled machines that mill, drill and ream metal parts.

Ideal candidates for this program are majoring in Machine Tool Technology and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students must have completed at least 12 but not more than 52 credit hours in college.

Become an Assembly Operator at BorgWarner

No manufacturing experience? No problem. This program is designed just for people like you. You’ll gain the skills needed to transition to a manufacturing setting and have the opportunity to continue the education you need for career growth and advancement.

You’ll learn to:

  • Perform mathematical calculations from the manufacturing field in the US Customary and Metric System
  • Employ professional behaviors, safe work practices and workplace ethics appropriate to a manufacturing environment
  • Apply production principles to the manufacturing environment

At the end of 14 weeks, you’ll earn:

  • Manufacturing Production I Credit Certificate (that stacks into an associate degree program)
  • OSHA-10 Certification
  • An opportunity to be hired full-time by BorgWarner upon successful completion of the program and meeting of hiring requirements

Class Schedule

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:35-12:35
  • Fridays, 9:05-10:55

TCTC Workforce Scholarships will cover the tuition costs, and you’ll earn a competitive hourly wage while getting hands-on training through BorgWarner’s co-op program.

Become a Materials Handler at BorgWarner

Whether you’re already a BorgWarner employee looking for a new opportunity or you’re completely new to the idea of working in a manufacturing environment, this partnership program might be just what you’re looking for.

This program teaches:

  • forklift operations and safety
  • LEAN/Kaizen principles
  • introductory supply chain concepts
  • workplace skills

At the end of 15 weeks (90 contact hours), you’ll earn:

  • OSHA-10 Certification
  • Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) certificate
  • Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) Certification
  • Forklift Operations Certificate
  • An opportunity to be hired full-time by BorgWarner upon successful completion of the program and meeting of hiring requirements

Class will meet two evenings per week, 6-9 pm.

Through a partnership between BorgWarner and Tri-County, tuition costs are covered.
