Per South Carolina Code 59-111-320, state-supported colleges and universities, and institutions under the jurisdiction of the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education, are authorized but not required to permit legal residents of South Carolina who are age 60 or older to attend classes on a space available basis* without the required payment of tuition provided these individuals meet admission requirements and other standards deemed appropriate by the College. Note: Tuition refers to the amount charged for registering for a credit hour of instruction—it does not refer to other fees, charges and/or costs of textbooks.
Tri-County Technical College will waive the tuition of credit courses provided the student meets eligibility requirements as well as admission requirements and other standards deemed appropriate by the College. TCTC does not waive tuition of non-credit courses. To confirm eligibility, individuals aged 60 or older must complete the Senior Citizen Status Verification Form prior to each semester for credit courses.
*Space-Available Basis: TCTC is only authorized to offer free tuition on a space available basis. Therefore, registration for credit courses will occur on the last day of registration as outlined in the TCTC Academic Calendar. Students who wish to pay regular tuition to gain early access to registration must follow the traditional application process outlined on the Admissions section of our website. In doing so, students relinquish the opportunity to receive a tuition waiver for that semester.
