We know that life’s circumstances can cause challenges. Food insecurity doesn’t have to be one of them.
Hours of Operation
The Student Support Pantry is not currently open for walk-ins but we are able to schedule individual appointments for the pick-up of food items.
To connect with our services, complete this Food Pantry Application.
The Student Support Pantry is open to all TCTC students!
The Pantry provides food to get you through the day and food for home to fill in your budget, on a temporary basis. We can also make connections to resources in the community that can help with food insecurity.
Research show that students are able to learn better when they are well nourished, and eating healthy meals has been linked to higher grades, better memory and alertness, and faster information processing. Students who get the nutrition they need are more likely to graduate and live happier, more productive lives.
Background
Started under the direction of leadership of Student Support & Engagement, the Student Support Food Pantry is TCTC’s response to a problem that is both national and extremely local: food insecurity among college students.
In 2017 the project charter committee surveyed 926 of students to see if having a food pantry was warranted. The results showed that 15 percent of them answered “yes” to the question “While a student at Tri-County Technical College, has there ever been a time when you did not have enough food for yourself or your household?” 82 percent of respondents reported that they would use an on-campus food pantry if they were actively experiencing food insecurity. Additionally, 25% of the students surveyed reported observing food insecurity for other students or their families.
Currently the Student Support Pantry services are offered at the main campus in Pendleton as well at all three-satellite campus and the Industrial Technology Center in Sandy Springs, SC. Thanks in part to generous donations through employee giving the Student Support Pantry has served nearly 100 students. And a recent grant from AT&T, the Student Support Food Pantry team estimates that they will be able to provide 65 additional students with a hot meal option for the academic year 2020-21.
